The ancient Saxon settlement of Seaham would become a major player in the Eastern half of the Durham Coalfield when Lord Charles Stewart married 19 year old Lady Frances Anne Vane Tempest, a 19 year old coal heiress. The Duke of Wellington,a comrade of Lord Stewart during the Napoleonic War would gave away the bride.
