Transporting the lime to the burning kilns at the riverside was well organised. Tracks were laid from the quarries to the riverside so that horse drawn carts could safely carry the lime to its destination.
Carley Road was part of the Eastern Wagonway until it was abandoned in March 1901 only to form part of our road network two years later. Looking up Carley Road nowadays you can visualise how it would have looked with the wagons coming up and down with the limestone quarried from Carley Hill area.
