Remembrance Parade

On June 16th 1883 children making ther way down a spiral staircase leading to the stalls from the gallery found there way barred by an unopened door. The inward opening door could not be opened because of the masses of children behind it. Of the 1100 children in the gallery a tragic 183 were to lose there lives behind the door, suffocated and crushed. The reason that they all rushed down the stairs was because gifts and sweets were being distributed from the stage.
